COI Policy for Official IAMM Activities

COI Policy for Official IAMM Activities

The principles of Conflict of Interest (COI) management are as follows:

IAMM has confidence in the integrity of its members and other individuals participating in official IAMM activities.

IAMM members are diverse, and regardless of affiliations, IAMM values the contributions of all its members and acknowledges the value of different experiences and perspectives.

Various experiences and relationships that contribute positively to IAMM’s work may also lead to potential “conflicts of interest,” and it is necessary to recognize and manage these conflicts to ensure that IAMM’s activities always reflect the existing best evidence and scientific rigor.

Potential conflicts of interest are situations that pose a risk, where professional judgments or actions related to primary interests may be unduly influenced by secondary interests. Conflicts of interest are a risk, not necessarily a situation of biased judgment or action.

IAMM requires specific disclosure of any relationship with tobacco entities since January 1, 2000, including ownership of stocks or options in tobacco entities (excluding mutual funds) and ownership by their spouse or domestic partner. In addition, individuals known to have a current relationship or to have had such a relationship with tobacco entities in the past 12 months are not eligible to:

Nominate or be elected as chairs or heads of committees or task forces;

Serve as IAMM editors, guest editors, or PHV committee members; accept to publish in IAMM journals;

Serve on the Conference Planning, Nominations and Planning Committee;

Serve as planners, chairs or moderators or hosts of IAMM scientific and educational programs;

Serve on the writing committees of IAMM statements or guidelines;

Serve as official spokespeople or representatives of the advisory committee.
