Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death with the highest incidence in China. According to statistics in 2018, the 5-year survival rate of lung cancer patients in China is only 19.7%. Therefore, there is an urgent need to apply the Internet of Things and metaverse medical technology to improve the diagnosis and treatment of early lung cancer .

In order to improve this situation, on April 7, 2021, the first AI demonstration base and sub-center for the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary nodules of the China Alliance for Lung Cancer Prevention and Control was inaugurated at Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University . Professor Bai Chunxue , chairman of China Lung Cancer Prevention and Control Alliance and director of Shanghai Institute of Respiratory Diseases , announced the launch of the “Smart Benefit Million Early Lung Cancer Project” (referred to as “Million Project”). In the future, this project will focus on cultivating regional talents and better The goal is to make full use of artificial intelligence to assist the diagnosis and treatment of early lung cancer.

The China Lung Cancer Prevention and Control Alliance will set up the “China Lung Cancer Prevention and Control Alliance Pulmonary Nodule AI Diagnosis and Treatment Branch Center” in 100 hospitals across the country within 3 years, and it is expected to treat millions of early lung cancer patients within 5-10 years. The China Lung Cancer Prevention and Control Alliance will support the construction of hundreds of sub-centers in an all-round way in terms of academics and technology (top-level design, academic leadership, technological innovation, and intelligence for the public) to provide treatment for early-stage lung cancer patients.

Taking Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University as an example, in the six years from 2014 to 2019, a total of 16,400 cases of pulmonary nodule surgery were performed. According to pathological diagnosis, 9,980 cases of early lung cancer were performed, accounting for 60.8%. According to the research that the radical cure of early lung cancer or the 10-year survival rate can reach more than 90%, it will greatly improve the 10-year overall survival rate of these 16,400 patients with lung cancer, which is expected to reach more than 50%, without the need for postoperative chemotherapy and radiotherapy , targeted therapy and immunotherapy.

The demonstration base and sub-centers will also jointly apply PN app5 A to practice evidence-based and individualized diagnosis and treatment, and apply metaverse technology to empower the grassroots and wide coverage. Give play to the demonstration role of “top-level design, academic leadership, technological innovation and intelligence benefiting the public”.
