The History of the Establishment of the Association
After Professor Bai Chunxue clearly proposed that metaverse medicine is an Internet of Things (IoT) medicine implemented through augmented reality (AR) technology, a multidisciplinary expert group consisting of doctors and related computer and information experts from Asia, the United States, and Europe was invited to further clarify the definition of metaverse medicine proposed by Professor Bai and reach a consensus on metaverse medicine (published in Clinical eHealth). The purpose is to use the comprehensive perception, reliable transmission, and intelligent processing strategies of IoT integration of virtual and real integration, man-machine integration, and virtual-real linkage technology to guide inexperienced doctors to solve these problems in an all-time and space manner. In order to promote linkage, efficiency, precision, and homogenization to improve the level of medical services and public health, and achieve the effect of “IoT health new opportunities, facing famous experts at zero distance, virtual-real linkage plus quality control, man-machine interaction who can compete”.
On this basis, the time is ripe to establish the International Association and Alliance of Metaverse in Medicine (IAMM), which is helpful for improving public health and medical services through the application of metaverse technology. Therefore, on February 18, 2022, the election of the Metaverse Medicine Association and Alliance (IAMM) was launched, with 80 people participating in the online voting for the election. Actual voting was carried out by 80 people, and 4 foreign guests without WeChat in China were calculated according to email opinions. The election ended smoothly at 11 pm on February 18, 2022. Professor Bai Chunxue was elected as the chairman, and Charles A. Powell, Niels H. Chavannes, Christoph Thuemmler, Pan Yi, and Professor Chen Rongchang were elected as vice-chairmen. This is a historic event in the establishment of an international metaverse medical organization led by China, because Professor Powell, as a vice-chairman, is the director of the respiratory disease research institute of the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, and Professor Chavannes has served in the World Health Organization (WHO) and is currently a professor at LUMC in the Netherlands. Professor Thuemmler has served as the main EU expert on IoT cooperation between China and the EU, which not only expands China’s influence but also helps us to achieve international leading level and complete the Healthy China 2030 plan more efficiently.
